God, I give my child to you today and receive your peace—that comes from first laying each one of their days at your feet. While my heart wants and seeks out for them all the good things, please remind me that my child isn’t merely an assignment to manage, but a soul that I am called to cultivate. In my ordinary, help me to impress upon them—at home and beyond—what is worthy. Use me, every person, every experience, and every lesson to order upward their gaze and affection—to you, your character, your creativity, and your presence. Fill their hearts with wisdom as you give them days full of wonder. May their learning turn their hearts to zeal and to worship. Amen.
Given the date, (home)school has been at the forefront of my mind every day for weeks.
Along with the curriculum and best option for a lunch bag, I’ve been sensing such urgency to seek out the wisdom and vision that each of my girls need stewarded by and imparted from me.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9
Above all the things, which are still good things, what they need most from me is to prioritize my impartation.
What they need and deserve most from me is to cultivate their awe and wonder of him through and in all things.
What they need and deserve most from me is to help them draw closer to him in their own ways.
What they need and deserve most from me is a mama bent to love him—in front of them and with them—with all of her heart, mind, soul, and strength.
When I get to thinking as I prepare our hearts for fourth and second grades, “when it comes to my children, my ultimate goal for them is heaven”.
Mama, our aim is to order upward their gaze and affection. In it all, we get to and can open and point their eyes up to him.
In mathematics, his order is revealed. // In geography and science, the miracle of his existence and creation is seen. // In history, his character, plan, and intentionality is evidenced. // In language arts, his truth and beauty is communicated and comprehended. // In fine arts, his creativity is tangibly experienced.
He can use us, and those he’s also given them to disciple and teach, to be their blessing.
01 . Do I have peace about my child’s days and what they are learning? If not, how do I take hold of the peace I need? [2]
02 . What is worthy to impress upon my children? What does it look like for me to impress it upon them and as priority?
03 . Have I asked for the wisdom they need me to receive? [3] Have I asked for wisdom to be given to those who will also impart to them?
[1] I haven’t found it yet. So if you have a legit recommendation, please let me know!
[3] James 1:5
